BacktrackRadio anniversaries in the coming weeks 7 October 1985 Kiss FM is launched, promising 24 hours a day of live mixing and scratching from London's top DJs. 8 October 1983 London Greek Radio takes to the air, broadcasting on the medium wave to the Greek community in North London. 11 October 1980 Horizon Radio, one of the most successful black music stations in London, is launched, initially broadcasting for two hours on a Sunday evening. 16 October 1973 Capital Radio takes to the air as Britain's first music-based independent local radio station. 28 October 1966 A letter is delivered to the offices of Radio 270 claiming a limpet mine is attached to the station's radio ship. A search is made, but nothing is found. 7 November 1986 WBLS is launched with a party at the Limelight nightclub. After just a few broadcasts the station collapses. 9 November 1970 At Sutton Magistrates Court, 3 Radio Jackie DJs are lined up to £50 each for unlicensed broadcasting. 11 November 1985 Transmissions begin from TKO, with back-to-back soul music on 102.4 FM. 14 November 1975 An operation is launched against Caroline's boat, the Mi Amigo, by the Police, Home Office and Navy. 19 November 1964 The first test transmissions go out from Radio London, broadcasting from the MV Galaxy in the Thames Estuary. 29 November 1984 Radio Jackie is served with a writ by nearby independent station Radio Mercury, claiming damages for taking Mercury's audience.
